Expunging a DUI in Illinois

We get a lot of calls from people who want to expunge or seal their DUI.

Unfortunately, there is no good news about this.

Unless you were found not guilty or your DUI charges were dismissed, you can never expunge or seal a DUI. It doesn't matter if you received supervision (which is not a conviction) or a conviction, it still cannot be expunged or sealed.

I wish more people were aware of this when they plead guilty to a DUI and get supervision. They think they are getting a great deal, totally unaware that the DUI will always be on their record.

What's worse, the DUI will keep you from being able to expunge any other arrest in the future.

Also, if your DUI was reduced to Reckless Driving, that cannot be expunged or sealed either.

The lesson here is: if you don't win your DUI charge, it will be on your driving record for the rest of your life.
